Is it possible to use ffmpeg rather than libmad for radio streams? A 24 bit output might have marketing appeal, but I would much prefer a properly resolved 16 bit output.

As it looks as if Rune is already using ffmpeg (it's the only choice I see in mpd.conf), I will change the question.
Is there any setting I can change to give a 16 bit output from radio streams, rather than 24 bit?
