24/96 ALAC plays as 32/96

Postby joeycorleone » 08 Oct 2016, 07:53

Hello,

I have noticed that when attempting to play 24/96 Apple Lossless (ALAC) encoded files with runeaudio, it consistently shows the files and plays them as 32/96. Is this a known bug and is there a workaround to get it to play in the native resolution?

The files clearly show as 24/96 on my computers in several programs. If I convert the files to FLAC they play properly as 24/96.

Hi

Nothing wrong.
32bit refer to DAC can handle 32bit decode

When playing a 24bit file and decoded with a 32bit DAC, data will add 8bit zero automatically.
It will not change content of the song. And no change to sound quality.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Is that specific to 24-bit ALAC specifically for some reason? My DAC does up to 32/192 but here are my results:

- 16/44 ALAC plays in native 16/44
- All FLAC plays in native resolution. I routinely play 24/48, 24/96, 24/192 with no issue
- 24/96 ALAC plays as 32/96

This is all via USB from a Rasberry Pi 2b
