abcde? Other CD rippers?

listening -- just not understanding yet. I'd been monkeying around with exactly this idea using the USB CD drive from my wife's old netbook and a new RP2. haven't make any progress, but learned a bunch in this thread.

the ability to rip and store to temp and then dump to NAS OR play a CD would be a huge add on to Rune. OSMC has it built in, but that OS isn't what many are looking for in terms of a simple, headless player. having CD rip ability and pulling in simple modules for other streaming sources, like google play, amazon prime, tidal, etc. would be great.

wish i knew anything about programming and could help the effort...

Hi all,

abcde works really great.

Some things i'm missing or do not like:
- FreeDB as tagging source is not always very precise.
- MusicBrainz has no album year and no genre info

Anybody here with ideas how to fix this?

Hi Frank,

IMHO, I think it is wise to avoid genre all together as it is fairly arbitrary, i never use it but i have been looking at this as a possibility. http://beets.readthedocs.org/en/v1.3.14 ... genre.html

I actually think that some sort of script to align discID to beets would be better than a direct musicbrainz link. That way it would be possible to scrape many more sources.

Did the instructions that i posted work for you in the install process? how did you get this working simply? I'm curious to know if you had the same parser.so issues that i had. This might be useful for other users to know.

Thanks Frank,

I'm going to order a RP2 on that advice.

Also.
I'd like to discuss the point about playing CD's with track listing (via musicbrainz-discid) but i'm not sure if it is worth starting a new thread. It's been a many hours to get it to a barely workable solution. have you atempted this?
