You think so? That's encouraging.
I have a Tripath T-amp board that I've used for 6 years now and I think my Kraken prototype sounds as good or better. If you look at the numbers, provided you keep the power levels reasonably low, i.e. run the 200W channels close to 50W then the THD numbers are very low. i'll do what I can to keep the quality high, but I think that most of the lunatic fringe requirements for TCXO's, ultra low jitter digital circuits etc are quite silly, especially as I'm digital right up to the power stage, and using an ASRC to resample. All sins before the ASRC are forgiven - that's the nature of digital. The clock source to the ASRC will be very low jitter, but the reality is that this is going to be fed to a PLL anyhow for cleanup and synthesis of other frequencies used for modulation. The only real threat is power hygiene.
I'm not going to include a power supply, but will have a nice 'power supply cleanser' that will filter a SMPS power supply by filtering out any audible frequencies/EMC probably with a high quality LDO and some good sized capacitor banks. I'll make recommendations of power supplies I've tested with, but that is such a cost center that the buyer should decide. They can appropriately size the power supply and save a lot of money and space.
ACX do you have thoughts on the number and power of loudspeaker channels?
