AudioPhonics DAC

Postby sylvain » 08 Sep 2015, 20:18

Hi there,

I have 2 Rune devices : one old PI B+ with a IqAudio DAC, and a brand new Pi 2 running an Audiophonics DAC SABRE 9023.

I made some tests, and was very surprised to notice that running the Sabre on the PI2 was bad ! The sound is really much better on the B+. I ran a lot of test, and i'm pretty sure that's a software issue. The sound is much more punchy, louder, really better on the old Raspberry device.

Is there something to do, or should i wait for the next RuneAudio ?

Thanks to the dev anyway for this awesome software !

I also swap the DACs between the 2 rasp.

Might not be only a software issue.
The Pi 2 no longer has linear regulators but switching devices .

It's like if the Raspi is supplied by a class A/B power supply, but the Pi 2 is supplied by a class D pwoer supply. This is really much more efficient for power consumption (more than 1W gained, they said) but might affect how your DAC is supplied.
Also try to switch the power brick, too.

Interesting! I tried with different power supply, but it did not help...

Hi Sylvain

I have similar issue with my I2S HIFI DAC es9023
http://www.ebay.it/itm/181694631154?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT

after reading your post i made a simply test:

With my RASPI 2 i hear irregular noises over the "white noise" of ampli (play a song, press stop, then put ampli to max volume)
(this with Rune audio, volumio and openelec)

with same hardware (alimentation, ampli etc etc) with my RASPI B+ i hear only the "white noise" of ampli.
(this with Rune audio, instead openelec make the same noise!)

At this point i use rune audio and update it via git to read cue files

Best regards

Giovanni
