Benefits of Pi2?

Postby Dobbs » 01 Nov 2015, 13:27

Hi

I have a model b Pi I use as media box for bedroom TV. I am looking to build a Rune box to sit within my Hifi setup and am thinking of replacing the bedroom media centre with a Pi 2 and reusing the model B for Rune.

Or would you advise just getting a Pi2 for Rune aswell because it would be a much better option?

Thanks and am looking forward to building..

Does this mean it does not matter if I use a B model or 2 model for Rune? I will have a spare B shortly you see and it is whether to use this or to just get a model 2 Pi.

I currently use a B+ and I have no problem....certainly the PI2 guarantees better performances than the B+.
So...since the price is the same, I would go for the PI2.

My Pi2 has poor audio quality from the 3.5 mm output, but audio through the HDMI sounds good. Might be something to consider if you were planning on using the 3.5 mm output (you might want to get feedback from others regarding their 3.5 mm audio quality on the Pi2 also). I use the 3.5 mm output on my B+ on another stereo in the house and it sounds good

Hi

If you don't try to convert sound, runeaudio is optimized to delivery good sound with low memory and cpu.
Raspberry Jack, usb and network hardware are not the efficient. But you have gpio for i2s and usb is suffisant for external dac.

I'm using b+ with iqaudio for runeaudio and 2 with iqaudio for openelec. I do some tests with runeaudio and rpi2
Up to 192 no différences. For 384 or dsd files. 2 is better, but not really satisfaisant.
I don't do tests with 2, but if using dac supporting dsd and 384, b+ sound very well.
I don't have HDMI amplifier and never try.

So from my opinion use b+ for runeaudio and 2 for vidéo and don't use nativ rpi Jack for sound

I'm using a B+ and a Wolfson DAC for RuneAudio and a 2 for openelec. I'm happy with Rune Audio running on a B+.

I was using the B+ for both (swapped SD cards). I only have the B+ connected to my stereo (through the DAC). The 2 audio is only through the HDMI. I haven't tried the audio out port on the 2.
