"Best Reasonable Sound"?

Postby Discovery » 19 Sep 2015, 10:00

The website's "About" page contains the following statement:-

"It’s multiplatform, optimized to run on multiple devices, and it aims for the best reasonable sound quality from each device."

Does this suggest that there is more SQ potential in RuneAudio, to improve on "reasonable"? If so, what would be needed to maximise the sound from an RPI2, given that the RPI is the most popular platform?

Thanks.

For example, have you already tried to play with the "Sound signature" profiles? :)

Hi ACX,

I have experimented with the sound signatures. I favour yours best but the differences are subtle.

My original question was because I was wondering if there was any new direction available that could potentially unlock more performance from specific hardware, as the original website quote might be interpreted to mean that compromises may exist to be able to run on many diffferent devices. I'll assume from your response that the answer is no.

Thanks.

So, answering more directly to your question: yes, there are still some directions available, on both the software and the hardware side, that could potentially unlock more performance. On the software side the most interesting one is probably the use of a well tweaked RT kernel. On the hardware side you have plently of choices (improving DAC, PSU, isolation, etc). The compromise in the latter case is the price you are willing to spend for it...
