Blocking others access

Postby matt » 24 Nov 2014, 06:27

My family think its great fun using their phones to change the music I'm listening to from other parts of the house.
I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon, but never the less it makes me think there should be a way to lock "unwanted visitors" out.
I'm not sure of the best way to achieve this, a password? Some sort of "on demand" way to block people would be handy.

Hi matt,
this is something we already have on our roadmap of development. Maybe it will see daylight in a near future.

probably a number of ways to accomplish this...but basically I think you need to make sure that ONLY your IP can get to the Pi. Can be done via iptables, hosts.allow, hosts.deny, or nginx config

See this: http://nginx.com/resources/admin-guide/ ... ng-access/

That gets problematic if his phone (and his family's devices) get their addresses by DHCP. Ideally access control would register the IP address of the first client to open comms and refuse any other IP addresses until the first client disconnects. That way you can just leave your runeUI window open on your phone and it blocks the rest of the family. Once you've closed your window, someone else can go in and listen to their music. Password free and I think fits the most common use case, but I've no idea how easy or hard it would be to implement.

I give out dhcp base on the clients MAC, so if he at least sets up his own devices he can allow himself to get to the rune

A simple account manager should solve the problem.
