OK so, I can bring both eth0 and wlan0 up:

- netctl start eth0

for wifi, netctl start is not enough, I first need to have:

- my /etc/netctl/wlan0 file (typical, with reference to wpa_supplicant.conf which contains my wifi connection parameters)
- ip link set wlan0 up (as per a post above)
- netctl start wlan0

After starting wlan0 though, now eth0 is gone.

Which Raspberry Pi are you using? Before I used Raspberry Pi 1 model B and everything worked fine, there wasn't even one problem with Wi-Fi. Now I started using Rasbperry Pi 2 and Wi-FI simply doesn't work. It works, but chances that it will connect to my network on boot are less than 10%. Sometimes I have to reboot it 10 or more times to get it connected. And it's not due to wi-fi dongle or network. I have two dongles (both TP-Link, one is a big one with antenna, and the second one is nano) and today I tried with Rune Audio on Raspberry Pi 1 model B with both dongles and everything works fine. I rebooted it 15 or more times, and every time it had successfully connected to the network. I tried both dongles on RPi2 but it's the same. Also, I tried more than 5 times to download RuneAudio and put it on SD card from scratch, I tried another SD card and on that same RPi2 I was also using OSMC and I didn't experience any problems with these dongles. So the problem has to be with RuneAudio.

I really do hope that they will fix this ASAP: I bought a lot of hardware and a case to put everything inside, I'm finishing my LCD+Buttons+Remote project and I want to finish all this and put it in a case while I'm on my summer vacations but this problems with Wi-Fi are driving my crazy and I can't work.

Do you want me to open a new topic in bugs section or to write everything here? Also today I started experiencing tons of other bugs: it won't recognize my USB Hub which always worked great. The hub and all devices on it are on (power LEDs are on) but RuneAudio won't recognize them (external DAC and HDD). When I connect them directly to Pi, they are working. Also, it doesn't want to play anything. I press play, it does recognize a song (I can see it's total time, bitrate etc.) but it won't start playing. When I click on Dirble, it just loads and loads but it won't enter.

Could it be that the used power supply isn't powerful enough?

Sorry for these phrases but I'm currently angry, sad and dissapointed and it's hard to control myself. I spent lot of time for LCD+Buttons code and I spent some money for case, parts (LCD, buttons, wires, dongles etc.) and now not even basic functionality won't work. I barely stopped myself from throwing the Pi out of the window or smashing it into the wall.

Power supply is 5V 2A, it should be fine. Now I reflashed the SD card from scratch again and everything is working except again network problems. I'm trying a little bit and I'll post my results in a new thread. It could be due to my network but then why the Pi1 is working without problems? Because, my router is very far so the signal is weak but there are wi-fi repeaters in the floor below so my laptop catches the repeater's signal and it works fine. Network name is the same for the repeaters and main router. Also, as I said, the Pi1 works fine. I tried to reboot it 15+ times and everytime it connected without any problems and the connection is working fine. I can listen to online radio stations without any problems. It can work for weeks without the need to reboot.

Am I doing something wrong maybe? I'm using a RuneAudio_rpi2_0.3-beta_20150304_2GB.img image. Do I have to update / pull from github something?

Re: Cannot connect to wireless network via wifi dongle

Thank you, Frank. I was testing yesterday again. I removed all GPIO and USB devices from RPi, I burned stock image again (the same you tested with), I connected it via LAN and configured Wi-Fi. I'm using DHCP, no static IP. Then I brought the Pi close to the router to have a full signal and I started testing. Maybe I expressed myself bad, the problem is not that Wi-Fi is not working at all. It works but sometimes it won't connect. So I was rebooting it a 10-20 times to test and sometimes it connects but sometimes it won't. I noticed that, if I do a Power Off and then unplug and plug the power again, there's a much higher probability that it will connect than if I just reboot it. When I reboot it, it mostly won't connect. Sometimes it works good (I managed to reboot it a few times and it connected every time) but sometimes it won't connect even after more than 5 reboots.

When it won't connect, the adapter still works, the LED on it is on, I can scan for networks from UI, and when I choose my network and press CONNECT, UI shows the message (blue box in bottom right corner) that it's now connected but it's not. "ip link" tells that adapter is down.

It's hard to tell where is the problem because sometimes it can work good for a longer period, but sometimes it's a nightmare. Now I turned it on again, only with Wi-Fi and it connected successfully, even from my room where Wi-Fi signal is weak from router so it probably catches a signal from repeater. But I'm scared that as soon as I connect all my devices to it (USB hub with HDD and external DAC, I2C LCD display, buttons, IR receiver) and start installing neccessary things, that it will break. Furthermore, I'm currently rebooting it all the time (Reboot option from UI), and 4-5 times in a row it connected successfully, but then suddenly it didn't connect. So I removed the power plug and plugged it in again and then it connected. And then I tried to reboot it from UI again, and it didn't connect. Then I unplugged it and plugged again, and it connected. And then I did a reboot and again, it didn't connect so I cut the power from it again and plug it back and it connected.

INFO
Raspberry Pi 2
Wi-Fi: TP-Link TL-WN722N
SD: SanDisk Ultra microSDHC Class 10 8 GB
Burned with: Win32 Disk Imager

Now I connected the LAN as well and rebooted it, and it did connect with both. As you can see, today is working fine but it's still somehow not very stable. Now I can't get it to not connect so I can grab the debug data  I'm scared that it will start making problems soon as I start installing things. Now I have to enable I2C and LIRC again.

I finally succeded at it failing to connect  Here's the debug data: http://pastebin.com/7muKtLW8 (the message was too long so I copied it to pastebin).

PROBLEM 2

Almost forgot, I have another problem with network. Once it connects, everything works fine (I can listen to online radio stations for hours, even in flac) but there are some problems with pacman. When I try to install or update something and when it downloads required files, often happens that the speed starts to drop from max speed (around 500 kB/s) to almost zero. When it reaches a few bytes per second, it throws an error that the speed is too slow. When I repeat the command for install/update, then it works without problems. This is happening both on Wi-Fi and LAN.
