Cirrus Audio Card on Raspberry Pi B+

Postby paulg05 » 18 Feb 2015, 00:29

Hello there,
I've just recently purchased a B+ pi and Cirrus Audio Card from Element 14 thinking it would be a straight forward process of playing music files from my hard-drive to my Denon receiver via SPDIF. ( It's just not the case )
Question is which image file do i install on the Pi first, is it the Cirrus Logic Audion img or is it the Runeaudio?

I can't seem to find any easy guide on the web to point me in the right direction.
It would be ideal if somebody uploaded the complete image.
Could somebody please point me in the right direction ?

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul.

Unfortunately there is no easy solution that I know of but there is my earlier post.

cirrus-logic-new-wolfson-on-rpi-b-t821.html

I could create an image of my working setup if you would like to avoid all the mucking about. Let me know.

That would be great if you could do that.
I just don't know how to go about it. ( worst case scenario would be posting a memory to you in the mail i suppose )

Hi Paul,

I started creating an image but I've discovered that my custom config is a little buggy and i'd hate to cause more greif for you with an unstable set up. I have it working but there are so many other hacks that i have in the pipeline that it makes less than ideal.

I have also decided to go down the hifi berry path as it appears to be more widely accepted not just here at Rune but elsewhere as well. The Cirrus/Wolfson contingency seems to be rather small in comparison. What we really need is a cirrus patch so we can add it to the RuneOS branch but that is a bit beyond me at this stage.

I'm happy to continue working this and if theres any other help you need, let us know. I'll update as soon as i have something more robust.

Hi mm,

Thanks for your hard work over the weekend.Much appreciated.
I just spoke to Element 14 and they are happy to refund my purchase.
Do you have any suggestions on which Country would be the best to purchase the HiFiBerry from ? ( I see nobody in Australia stocks them )

cheers

It's a real shame that the wolfson modules are not compatible with the cirrus.i have a wolfson and it's working really well with the original rPi.

I'm not sure about Australian suppliers, I'm in the same boat as you. The cirrus card from element14 was the easiest option for delivery to Melbourne out of all the DAC options. However, it's not too popular everywhere else.

The hifiberri people are very good with postage from experience. The other alternative is geekroo or the dealextreme knock-offs.

I hope that helps.
