Clicks listening to Spotify

Postby Jck » 21 Nov 2014, 17:52

Hello everybody,

I searched the forum but it seems that no one reported this problem: I'm experiencing a lot of clicks while listening to Spotify using RuneAudio on a Raspberry PI B+ connected to my AV receiver through HDMI.
Everything else (Webradio and FLAC from USB and NAS) is working great.

There is something I can try to do to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance :) .

Thanks for your answer.
I tried a couple of 320kbits webradio and they worked fine after a few "jumps" at the very beginning. I don't think this could be a connection problem because I can listen to Spotify smoothly from mobile, PC and from the Spotify app on my AVR (with one of the ugliest UI ever seen...). Beside, I usually stream 1080p video + 5.1 audio from Netflix.
I also tried to mess with the spop.conf file, setting high_bitrate = false to request 160kbit audio, but clicks are still here.
Last test has been to run spop directly from the command line, but still no luck.

spopd.log file reports several "[ap:4210] ChannelError(0, 1, playlist)" during playback, but I have not been able to find informations about them.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi,

you can experiment with the settings in spopd.conf.

# Cache path -- the location where Spotify will write cache files. This cache
# include tracks, cached browse results and coverarts. Set to empty string to
# disable cache.
Can be the same as the settings path. Defaults to
# $XDG_CACHE_HOME/spop (usually ~/.cache/spop).
#cache_path = /var/lib/spop
# Cache size, in megabytes. The default value is 0, which means 10% of disk free
# space.
#cache_size = 0

As far as i know, caching is disabled in the configfile.

Hi,

these settings work for me.

### Cache settings ###
#cache_size = 0
cache_path = /tmp/spop
settings_path = /tmp/spop

Be carefull, the cache is written to sd-card, so there may be some "wearout".
If it works for you we have to find a way to do it in memory.

Thanks hondagx35.

I tried several combinations: cache on, cache off, small cache, big cache, cache on an external USB drive. I also tried to increase spopd process priority, but I didn't hear any difference (i.e. still clicking).
My configuration is pretty standard... How can I be the only one with this problem?

Hi Jck,

Did you manage to resolve your issue? I'm experiencing similar clicks and pops when listening to Spotify tracks.

Cheers

Unfortunately I'm still experiencing the problem. I hope it will be solved in the next release of RuneAudio!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try, but first I have to make Spotify work again... I think I broke something trying to recompile spopd...
