crossfade 16bit-flac > 24bit-mp3

Postby Dual701 » 06 Nov 2017, 22:22

Hi,

today I got my Allo Boss Player and I'm very impressed with its sound and with the features of runeaudio.

Comming from foobar2000 I really like that rune features REPLAY-GAIN and CROSSFADE as well.

But one thing I don't like is that the upsampling of mp3-files from 16bit to 24bit in MPD seems to block the crossfading performance between mp3 and flac files. Crossfades between two mp3-files or two flac-files are possible. But no flac>mp3 or mp3>flac fade.
Changing buffer-sizes didn't help on this.

Is there a way to stop the 16bit-24bit upsampling thing in MPD?
What's the function of this? Do I (or my DAC) need the bit-conversion in some way?

I have large playlists with 50:50 flac/mp3s and a crossfade that works only every second time is a little bit strange...

Thank you
Chris

Hello Chris,

welcome to RuneAudio.

As far as i know is this a common problem with MPD.
MPD is only able to perform a crossfade if both songs have same sampling rate and bit depth.
You can try to output the same format for all your files by editing mpd.conf.
See for more info.
