File types not supported

Postby foxint » 19 May 2016, 09:40

Hi Guys...

I am new and tried to search the forum, but could not find any answers. So please do not shoot me....But I am having trouble playing certain file types....and I really do not understand.

Pi3 with Digi+ connected to an external DAC with Optical cable. I did a survey of my files and if they played or not. I am a little confused with what I have found...so can anyone explain why they cannot be played on the rune?? I can play all these on Media Monkey.

OK...my table did not copy.....

Stereo 16bit 441. kHZ 0 kbps - OK
Stereo 16bit 44.1 kHz 835 kbps - OK
Stereo 24bit 192 kHz 4885 kbos - No Sound
Stereo 24bit 192 kHz 3792kbos - No Sound
Stereo 24bit 48 kHz 1388 kbps - OK
Stereo 24bit 96 kHz 2014 kbps - BAD

So from my investigation anything above 48 kHz is no good??
Why can I hear a track (like the first one) with 0 kbps? Yes I have no idea what kbps

I got this from the Play Screen.

Hi Frank

Thanks.

I can play all my files on the same hardware using Media Monkey. For the record my DAC is a Little Dot (Chinese)

From the links, the kbps I did not understand, but you said forget it...so I have

But still have the kHz issue.

Thank you

Hi Frank
Sorry I do not have a coax. The DAC is automatic and it "should" detect the rates.

I am confused....if using the same hardware Media Monkey can play all the flac files, then it must be the Rune software???

maybe the Media Monkey decode/transcode your music and sent in different format out to your DAC?

Hi Frank.

Nice to have you back.

No I did not get Media Monkey to work on the Pi...it is on my Win-10 PC.

Can MM run on the Pi. The MM people said no.

BUT...and this is a big but - Rune sounds so mcuh better. Well on the files is plays.

So MM works on ALL files while Rune seems to work on 44.1 and less.
:(
So what is the go bro?

As rikardo suggested, MM is probably resampling your files.
Look up the spec for your DAC, or post a link to a specification page/document, and someone will help you.
48K is not likely to be the limit, but 96K may be the maximum you can play.
If so, there are ways of "forcing" conversion to a compatible rate.
An optical cable is definitely NOT a good way to play files over 96K 24-bit, even if by some miracle it works, this is not good.

Guys
Thanks for the comments. I am not reall understanding much of it.

http://www.littledot.net/forum/viewtopi ... b0166268b3

This my DAC.

This may not be correct, but: if Rune is able to play 96/192k files, what have I done wrong or need to do to make it play?

My next stupid question:

Why is optical not good? I thought optical is immuned from RF interference. So why is copper better, surely we are dealing with digital and optical would be best??? My brain must be fried from the Aussie sun...
