General help for noob

I have downloaded the version for the Pi with touch screen as directed in the thread on the topic. Following that entry in the forum there are multiple changes to boot files and configs discussed.
Question:
1. If I downloaded my version from the one drive is it the most up to date version?
2. If it is do I still have to make all the changes discussed on the forum?
3. Am I the only person here who find Github an absolute nightmare? I have yet to successfully conclude anything I have tried from there.

I rally like what rune does on the Pi but find it very frustrating not knowing if the version I have has all the enhancements or not.

Having investigated your clear and concise response I am still confused. Your lovely UI appears on my touch screen so I don't know how I can navigate to http://RP-IP-ADDRESS/dev
Similarly how do I access the command line to make the changes to the styles.

I am sorry I am so dumb but this is an important project for me and whilst I appreciate there are a great many enthusiasts and developers on this site I find it frustrating that I cant achieve my aims.

By the way I have a computing and information systems degree so I am not totally without a clue which only makes this more frustrating for me that I cant achieve what I hoped for in this project.
