I realize I have been posting mostly about my hardware issues and UI problems, so here's a bit of good news, at least for those like me with way too many not-so-smart media appliances...
My Rune Audio player is finally working well as a client with BubbleUPnP. Not sure what the problem was before, but I have now invested the $4 in a Bubble license, and everything is working out-of-the-box.
BubbleUPnP finds both of my active UPnP clients, Rune and Kodi, and all of my active UPnP sources. This means I can now stream music to the Rune Audio player even from sources not normally accessible to Rune.
As an added bonus, given more than one Android device in a household, one person with the Rune Audio UI on a tablet or smartphone can see in the Playback screen (including album cover) what another person is streaming to the player from Bubble UPnP.
In other words, say a guest to your house wants to stream music stored on their phone to your Rune Audio player, but knows nothing about Rune, your player, or the rest of your gear. If they have BubbleUPnP on their phone, it is just two clicks away...
