Please ignore my comments above. Apologies for my ignorance!

After a few minor issues with MobaXterm I was able to run the code and get the hardware volume control working. The range is limited as others have reported, with an effective range between 60 and 100.

Apologies I am new to Linux. On first boot up my card IQ Audio DAC plus is missing from pick list. I just had analogue or Hdmi out. Did what Frank suggests removing # by editing boot/con fix.txt and now have the option for IQ Audio DAC. However, DAC plus still not showing as an option.

Any help most welcome.

Thanks

This does not work for me with clean/new image. Either I get fixed volume when hardware is selected or I can have variable volume with software. Aplay -l identifies the card and I do have sound. It is a pcm5122 card and i2c is its interface.

For my setup:
# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [ALSA ]: bcm2835 - bcm2835 ALSA
bcm2835 ALSA
1 [IQaudIODAC ]: IQaudIODAC - IQaudIODAC
IQaudIODAC
2 [Camera ]: USB-Audio - USB2.0 1.3MP UVC Camera
USB2.0 1.3MP UVC Camera at usb-bcm2708_usb-1.4, high speed

From Alsamixer I select f6 : and then the card: IQaudIODAC I can select 'Digital' but cannot make increase/decrease like I can PCM and Playback.

Frank,

Thanks for the help. This used to work. I do not know what is going on. The only difference I can think of is that I am now on a wire instead of wifi. I updated the runeUI by git pull according to the other thread and still nothing. What I have is my own board which is a PCM5122 connected like an IQAudio. I get nothing when I try to use the HiFiBerryDAC+ (selected in /boot/config.txt) which uses the same chip (And I think it is connected the same way) and do not know why. Is the driver aware of any eeprom with config variables n it?I have tested this card on a Pi2 and a B+ and, like I said, it worked before, but doesn't now. It was noticeably clearer with Hardware volume control and I had almost nothing below 50% and all control was between 50 and 100%.

When I type that redis-cli command, the UI does go look like it is changing. When it goes to 'hardware', the volume goes to full volume and I cannot adjust volume from the UI. I can click a value, but it immediately goes to 0 in the UI. I can adjust volume by my up/dn keys from the terminal running alsamixer and adjusting "PCM". Digital always shows 0.

Any help?
