How to install RPI kernel headers for 3.12.26-1?

Postby daymz » 25 Feb 2015, 02:25

Hello,

I've been playing around with Volumio 1.5x for the past month or so and got fed up with instability and configuration issues, but most importantly, the insanely long boot times.

In all respects, I've been amazed with RuneAudio 0.3-alpha thus far. It boots lightning fast and everything works out of the box.

I do have one small issue though. I'm using a cheapo Wifi dongle (mt7601). It works perfectly once you compile the driver, depmod and insmod it. But I need the kernel headers to achieve that.

I'm very familiar with Ubuntu and Debian, but not so much with ArchLinux. I've learnt a bit and found that I can install the dkms-mt7601 to automatically compile the driver. Great! Except that pacman only allows me to install kernel headers for the latest kernel (3.18.x) - I tried updating the whole system to this new kernel, but ended with issues here and there (including instability and crashes).

So, how can I install the kernel headers for 3.12.26-1? I've searched for close to a week and I just can't find how.

Please help!

perhaps this answers your question? http://archlinuxarm.org/forum, search for "Raspberry Pi version mismatch"

Thanks for the followup MSH.

I had found that thread before, and the mechanism of it is good (I think). The problem is that the Arch repo is on a rolling window and the only available package is 3.18 - nothing else can be downloaded from that location. And I don't want to update the kernel to 3.18, I want to stay on 3.12.26-1

I tried looking for mirrors, but I can't find anything.

I also tried downloading the Linux Rapsberry Pi kernel sources from Git (commit id relevant to 3.12.26 -- no mention of 3.12.26-1 anywhere) -- the compilation of the driver worked, but loading the module produced by that process failed.

I'm starting the believe my only options are:
- find a copy of "linux-raspberrypi-headers-3.12.26-1-armv6h.pkg.tar.xz"
- have someone who installed that exact package before tar.gz the headers folder and let me download it.

I tried to find the first with no result. Hoping someone here can help with the second. (the developers of RuneAudio must have that problem with rolling window package availability - and even maybe a need for headers to build modules to add to the distro)

Well, I finally found ALARM, the Rollback Machine for Arch ARM! (which has the same purpose as the standard x86 ArchLinux rollback)
http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6544

All packages related to kernel 3.12.26-1 can be found here:
http://rollback.adminempire.com/2014/08/09/armv6h/core/

I hope that helps someone.

I`ve started the process of compiling the Ralink Mediatek MT7601 driver (using dkms) and will report back here if this is successful, in case that helps other people.

Hello,

http://rollback.adminempire.com/2014/08 ... pkg.tar.xz

is offline, so it appears the entire rollback portion of their site.

Can anyone share their copy of linux-raspberrypi-headers-3.12.26-1-armv6h.pkg.tar.xz?
