IP ok, but no dns entry

Postby riquet78 » 17 Dec 2014, 16:27

Hi,

I want to change the Hostname of my RaspberryPi/RuneAudio on my LAN

I have edited /etc/hosts, /etc/hostname, and /etc/resolv.conf point to correct server.
On my gateway server, a static entry is in dhcpd.conf for RuneAudio Server.

I can access it via IP address, but not by DNS name.

Any idea to solve this issue ?

Thanks,

Hi riquet78,
What you have done is to change the hostname locally on the Raspberry Pi. This is completely independent of reaching the Raspberry Pi from your network. The DNS name must be set on a DNS server.

It's not usual to run a DNS server at home in the traditional sense, luckily RuneAudio can present itself on the network through Bonjour/ZeroConf (actually avahi).

To change the name that RuneAudio presents to the network, go to "Menu" -> "Settings". From here, you can change the setting "Player hostname". Press the "APPLY SETTINGS"-button, and you're good to go.
