Is Rune or USB DAC treat the sound?

Hi,

I'm a new runeaudio user.
Config:
Rapsberry Pi3
dac cambridge dacmagic 100
USB connection

I have a simple question, from my understanding, the DAC is the one that manage numeric -> analogic transformation, so how runeaudio or any other audiophile distrib configuration can have an impact on the sound quality?
