hi frank, thanks for you very useful hints. it seems that my reply from yesterday disappeared somehow. now i will have to try to reconstruct it...

playing around with mpc and trying the various options i think i could identify the main problem. searching for AlbumArtist gives me the correct (expected) number of entries, searching for Albums or Genres gives me the correct number entries as well. searching for Artist gives me a number which is incorrect (251) - it provides list of unique entries coming from albums where there is absolutely no track artist defined. the mpc output starts with an empty line - i think there are all of my "missing" artists (should be around 700 unique entries when i consider both album artists and track artists).

searching for a given artist under AlbumArtist gives me all FLAC files where this artist is present. when i search for the same string under Artist, then the file is missing which has different track artists (according to CUE).

in order to solve this particular problem, i'd need the way how to change the Artist category in the UI (at all relevant places) into AlbumArtist. any thoughts how to achieve this? i think this is anyway the more logical way (at least for me). i want to listen to a whole album (with given album artist), not to individual tracks of the potential contributors... splitting my FLACs into individual tracks will not help here.

apparently this was (at least partially) a topic, more than year ago...

now to my second library problem. for single-track FLACs (properly tagged), the artist/album/genre view leads in the lowest level to the track listing. for the single-album FLACs with CUE (i.e. no full tag in the FLAC file), trying to reach the track list fails (rotating circle, indefinitely). don't we have a possibility to get the track info from the CUE via MPD? in the NAS view, there is at least CUE & FLAC listed (but even there, no track info - that is provided only in the Queue). for this, splitting my FLACs might be a solution (but a pain...)

something like this in both NAS and artist/album/genre would indeed be perfect...

by the way is runeaudio reading the CUEsheet info from the CUE files or from the embedded CUEsheets in the FLAC files? i have both... MPD should be capable of both

any thoughts?

EDIT (bit later):
i just converted one of my albums into separate track FLACs where the individual tags are always properly set. my "worry" is now confirmed. everything seems to work fine but my artist list is getting cluttered (since all the individual track artists are presented there).

also, aparently runeaudio / mpd "under the hood" is just reading the extra CUEsheet info (from the extra file). embedded CUEsheet in the FLAC file is ignored (i removed the CUE file, recreated the db and after that, i could only play the whole FLAC at once, without any tags being displayed.
