Local GPIO track control

Postby jkelly30 » 26 Feb 2014, 11:39

Hi All,

How difficult would it be to integrate some form of local control of the playback say via some micro switches on the GPIO of the RPi? Just thinking about limited controls of say play/pause, next track, previous track.. Would it be relatively simple to alias button presses to the commands or is it more involved? Has anyone tried this sort of implementation?

I know this sort of moves away from the great universal web interface of RuneUI but it might suit some applications..

Cheers

This can be done with a python script using https://pypi.python.org/pypi/RPi.GPIO
On key press just run commands like "mpc next".

Or have a look at these code examples: http://elinux.org/RPi_Low-level_periphe ... e_examples

Thanks Midnight & George,

Looks like this will certainly suit my requirements ( and hopefully some others)..

Hi jkelly30.

I have just had this idea myself and thought I would come looking for any tips. Do you manage to set this up? If so, can you provide some knowledge on your steps to achieve this?

Thanks.

Thanks for this. That simple fact does keep stumping me every now and again. Just realised however that my HiFi Berry DAC is taking up all my GPIO ports. :(

Are you sure it's taking them up?

You might just need to extend them so that you can access them.
