MPD http stream

Postby bevlar » 19 Apr 2015, 11:32

Hi

As you're probably aware from my previous posts I want to look into adding http streaming so I can do a bit of experimenting.

When I try and manually add a http source (ignoring the warning in /etc/mpd.conf) RuneUI complains that I have manually edited the conf file.

Is it A. possible to override this functionality or B. add a http source in the same way you would add a new USB or IC2 DAC?

I appreciate that you are primarily focusing on a hifi solution but if I am able to successfully setup http streaming it will add additional functionality to RuneAudio and may also be a step toward a (wireless) multi room solution.

I am aware that I can (and do) use Subsonic but I would rather run a single solution using Rune.

I have done some testing using darkice and icecast2 (raspbian) and its not going to work for multi room. I was able to get the latency down to a couple of seconds bit obviously that's not good enough.

I would still like to see mpd http integrated into rune so I can still play my collection whilst away from home.

I have tried most of the available audio distros but rune is still my favourite. RuneUI just looks awesome and includes everything I need with the exclusion of Bluetooth and http streaming.

Bevlar, did you get any farther on your quest to httpd stream?

What I did was create a mpd server on my linux box. This is using the same filesystem as my Pi/Rune Audio uses for music. I updated /etc/mpd.conf on my linux box to add the httpd output.

I'm using chrome on my android phone to stream the same music as my pi.

I agree it would be better to have one mpd server (Pi/Rune) and stream to my phone by updating /etc/mpd.conf on the pi (or a gui setting) and set the port to the streaming port (8000).

My need is to have my pi attached to my music room for critical listening and use an old android phone to stream (wireless only) to the garage or another room with a stereo.

BTW, I did try subsonic too.
