Newb questions

Postby vershner » 06 Mar 2015, 14:32

I'm new to Raspberry Pi, I haven't bought one yet, but I'm looking to put a music player in my kitchen and a Hifiberry + Runeaudio looks like a possible combination. I've got a few questions though.

I organise my music in ordinary directories but many modern players want to build this into a library which I do not want. Can Rune browse by directories and can I switch off any indexing or downloading of metadata and album art?

How long does it take to boot?

Does it have any power management, particularly spinning down USB hard disks when inactive?

Is it straightforward to set up CIFS shares on the Rune box as well as connecting to them?

Thanks. My Pi should be arriving this week so I should be able to give it a try soon.
One more question: what would you say are the main differences between Rune and Volumio?
