Thanks ACX that helped.

Now I need to figure out how to install RPi.GPIO. Looks like I need to do all sorts of voodoo to get that working, any tips on how I achieve this?

hi,
use wiringPi instead.

you have to install dev tools:
pacman -S base-devel
then follow this instruction:
http://wiringpi.com/download-and-install/
but with pacman ;) not apt-get.
