Question about Pi2 HDMI output (audio)

Postby elz64 » 27 Jul 2015, 13:21

Hi,

New to RPI world, and I'm collecting informations to build my HIFI music server.
I read every where people are using extra DAC adapter to ouput audio modulation through analog jacks.
Fine, but why not using the embeded hdmi ?

I will use my AV Denon ampli so I can use an hdmi input on it and I do not need any analog ouput from the RPi.

So..
Is the hdmi quality bad ? (don't see why because it's digital)
Is Rune able to choose this output ?

Thank you

I'm using Runeaudio and I can choose HMDI as an output device. So I guess it's possible, but I never tried. Most amplifiers don't have HDMI inputs. I think this is the reason that most people including myself are using a DAC. Analog out is really not an option in case you wander.

Good luck with it!

Thank you

But most ampli are hfmi centric since a few years.
Of course I'm not talking about esoteric duper hifi products
But AV amplifiers all have hfmi 1.3 or now 2.0 hdmi
That's why I'm really puzzled by the need of converters on the RPI ...
