Raspberry Pi 3 B - Unable to Connect to 5GHz Wireless

Postby Pelorus32 » 18 Sep 2016, 00:52

I've just set up Rune Audio on a RPi 3. It's working well, however my 5GHz wireless network never appears in the list of available wireless networks. I have a 2.4GHz network (LSS) that I'm connected to, and a 5GHz (LSS5GHz) that just never appears in the list. If I try and add it manually it simply fails to connect.

I'd really like to connect to the 5GHz network as high res .wav files are not streaming fast enough on the 2.4GHz network. They stutter and drop out. When I connect to ethernet they play perfectly. I also have another (proprietary) streamer connected to the 5GHz network and it plays these files fine.

I've searched the forum but I cannot find this issue specifically. Any help would be gratefully received. I can use the terminal but I'm not terribly techie :(

Happy to post debug it that will help.

Regards
Mike

Hi, I had a similar issue recently. I built a Pi Zero with IQaudioIO cards and a 5g wifi dongle. In the RuneAudio terminal I used wifi-menu to detect the network, which did see my WPA_PSK 5g network, but failed to connect. Wasted a lot of time with this before I tried making the 5g network open. After this the Pi wifi adapter connected. Obviously its not the best scenario to have an exposed network. I personally leave the 5g just for my Pi Zero and every other device on my secure 2.4g.
Maybe the next release of Rune will fix this problem for WPA_PSK 5g problem.

Thanks Frank, I'd conflated 802.11n with 5GHz.

Is there a WIFI adapter that will do the job? No doubt there will be configuration steps that frighten me already :P
