Raspberry Pi 3/Onboard WiFi, Dongle Problems

Postby craig97 » 30 May 2016, 17:47

Hi guys,

I've got Rune up and running on my RPi3 connected to my router via LAN Cable; reason being that the WiFi just doesn't seem ti work. I have tried a couple of ways mentioned on the forum, but nothing seems to have worked.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Are you using the internal Pi3 WiFi, or a dongle? Does the name of your WiFi network show up when you click on WLAN0 in the network screen, and when the software scans for networks?

That would be MENU->Network->Network Interfaces->WLAN0

If it does, it would be helpful if you post what you entered when you tried to configure the connection, and what the error was, if any.

In other words, please post a little more information, and someone will help you, :)

Sorry for the lack of info. Pretty naive :D

Well, I tried using both, dongle as well as onboard. Dongle shows up as WLAN1 and onboard as WLAN0

In both the cases, only "scanning for networks...." is seen. It doesn't find any networks. I tried to add and save a wireless network, but it just freezes when I click the Save button.

Are there any other networks to be found besides your own? In my case, the scan finds about 5, including neighbors and across the street, and sometimes a coffee shop nearby...

What I am getting at is, if for some reason the Pi cannot communicate with your wireless router, can it at least see some others?

Also check to make sure your network is not set to "invisible". That can make troubleshooting difficult.

edit:

Oh, and btw, I only own a Pi 2, so some of the Pi 3 bugs (I mean features... ) are above my paygrade, and someone else may have to pick this up.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the revert. There are a couple of other networks in my area, but the RPi3 doesn't find that either.

However, just yesterday, I tried Rune on my RPi2, and it worked perfectly, finding and connecting to my WiFi network. It seems the issue is compatibility of Rune with the RPi3.

I hope the devs take note of the same. Thanks again man!

Hi Craig:

I've got the exact same problem. Have you found a solution? Thanks.

Still having this problem with my Pi3. Doesn't find any wifi networks even though there are many in the area. Thanks.

Hi,

please check the channel used by your router.
Raspberry Pi 3 and internal wifi only works with channels <= 11.
