No Recover on Power Failure [Title and first post edited]

Postby krotin » 28 Mar 2015, 13:16

[EDIT]
Hi Guys,

This time I characterized the incident :

I Have got two Pi in a box both their own power supply but both power supply plugged into a 3 outlet extension cord.
Yesterday I had a power failure. The Pi running OSMC restarted when power went back, the one with runeaudio didn't. (even though it is powered.)

So I tried unplugging / plugging back and just like in previous thread below It wouldn't start properly (no ping no ssh or web access)
Git Pull had been done...

Anybody could help ? I am a little tired of reinstalling Rune every 2 month or so (not that it is complicated but it takes abit of time and it's all nicely setup in a closed box tucked away)

[End of EDIT]

Hi Guys,

I am successfully using Rune since a few weeks on a rbpi b+ with a hifiberry-dac+.

hey well the title is pretty self explanatory : I format a new sdcard install rune and fire it up. I then do my configuration but if I reboot or turn if off (ssh or from UI) It becomes simply impossible to access it from ssh or ui.

I always use static address with ethernet.

I know you'll tell me it is minor and after you set it uo there si no need to reboot BUT here is the thing : after using it for a few weeks without turning it off it just crashed ? couldn't reach it anymore no ping etc.. so I unplugged power and plugged it again and as expected Runeaudio wouldn't start or at least it is unreachable.

So this morning I am setting it up all over again and guess it I had to reboot....and it wouldn't start back.

So I came here to see if any of you could give me a hand on that one.

Thanks guys.

Re: Reboot/Shutdown from ssh or UI leads to Rune not Restart

Hi krotin,

please try this:
- make a new sd card with latest image
- go to the dev page and start a git update as described .
- make your configuration

Hi Frank,

Thank you for your reply.

Well after reading the forum I tried just that

- format with "Sd Formatter"
- install latest image with "win32diskimager"
- did the git pull from dev page

then just to be sure I restarted through ssh >> sudo shutdown -r now
looks like the pi starts but I can't reach the system anyway.

anyway I can log events and then when it happens again I'll read the sd on my computer and read the log maybe ?

Hi Guys,

I am still stuck with this issue.

Today it stuck on refreshing a remote directory (small one)

so I "systemctl restart rune_SY_wrk"

Now I get 404 not found !

How can i restart UI from ssh ?

happening to me as well.

web interface goes down, can still ssh in.

tell it to reboot via ssh and it doesn't come back up.

these events are happening more and more often :-/

My RPi B+ with squeezebox keeps plugging away, as does my RPi 2B, which is the media server.

Well that's why I wrote a post here.
after playing for year with Rbpi and different OS I learned a bit.
And as I reinstalled Rune one 2 pi with 2 sd cards I thought there's ough to be other people encountering same issue.

Anyway here is my question about logs again : any place I could dig some logs so I can provide them for analysis (or read them myself)

Thanks for the great work and patience.

no response today. (no web gui)
pinged it via term.. responded normally
went to ssh in and received no response.

rebooted manually, now the thing won't come back up. (powers up, but no OS)

Hi all,

please give us more information, because your problems are really strange.
I have multiple devices running here, some for weeks now, without any problems.
Most often issues like this have to do with bad power supply or unsuitable sd cards.

- exact type and brand of the sd card?
- device (RP, RP+, RP2 or xxx)?
- updates installed?
- power supply?

All logs can be found under /var/log/
You can also send us the output from dmesg.
