RP3/rune 0.4 question

Postby tito » 02 Aug 2017, 07:09

Absolute novice here in both Linux and Rune. I have some persistent problems with Wifi in almost all RPi3 OSs that I'll ask about later, but for the time being, a very basic question.

I have a cobbled-together TVPC system; the PC is the only modern unit. The TV has no HDMI ARC and the amp has no HDMI inputs or outputs.

I'm trying to troubleshoot an HDMI audio stripper with the intention of using the Pi 3 and Rune as an audio server through the amp. Unfortunately, I have nothing in the junkbox that I could connect up to determine if the HDMI output on the RPI3 is sending audio or if the audio stripper is carrying audio in its "passthrough" mode..

The audio stripper will accept video from the RPi3 and pass it through to the TV set. That works. I cannot, however, see any 5.1 or 2-channel audio from the optical output of the splitter. I've sent some questions to the manufacturer of the splitter.

In the course of troubleshooting, though, I notice that I have analog output from the RPi3's analog audio jack even with the output set to HDMI in the Rune app. I can hear the audio in a pair of earbuds.

Is this normal? Or should the Pi3's audio output be either HDMI or analog but not both?

If it's one or the other, I'm apparently not able to use the Rune app to switch sources (app says it's supposed to be on the fly). Any suggestions for other ways to force the audio through the HDMI port?

Thanks for any advice.

Frank, thanks for the reply.

Well, the Android app says the Pi is pushing through the HDMI port. I've switched back and forth a time or two, but I can still hear analog audio through a set of earbuds when the Pi is supposedly in HDMI mode.

I fear this is quickly going to get me in over my head, but are there alternative ways of forcing the Pi to the correct output port?

The Wifi stuff is a little more involved. I'll post something separate on that after I figure out what's going on with this issue.

Appreciate your help.
