Hi all, I just got my RPi HifiBerry DAC+ running, analog out into my preamp. It sounds fantastic and Rune was pretty easy to setup once I figured out I had to download some updates through the terminal. I am using a Macbook Pro 2015 model for whatever that's worth on the following questions.
My favorite music browser at this point is RoonLabs. This was the first way I got the RPi hooked up, through Roon via Airplay. Then my "audiophile nervosa" crept in and I thought wait, what might Airplay be doing to my 24/96 and higher files? Just to confirm, Airplay was working fine - it no longer does I'm afraid. It stopped right around the time I installed the trial of JRiver MC21 for Mac to use the RPi as a UPNP renderer. That works fine but again, I much prefer the Roon software for finding music. Also, for some reason the volume output is lower through UPNP but not offensively so (volume is disabled in Rune).
So, I got to thinking, what if I were to use Roon to feed JRiver via ASIO which would then work with the RPi as a UPNP Renderer. Best of all worlds, basically. Turns out that doesn't work either. I need to get over to the JRiver forums to find out why the ASIO driver isn't an option, despite it being activated in JRMC Options.
So I guess my main question is, why would Airplay suddenly stop working? I've tried rebooting the Pi with no impact. Since it worked fine but stopped, I'm a little stumped. The behavior is that I can see RuneAudio as an Airplay device in Roon but when I hit play, Roon quickly prompts me to choose an Audio Device and just doesn't play. The little Airplay icon is showing on my Mac in the menu bar.
So, sorry for my first post being so long-winded. I'm not new to PC audio or audio in general but am an admitted RPi newb. Any help is greatly appreciated, on either of the questions really.

TL;DR: Should I be able to use JRiver ASIO in from Roon on a Mac? Airplay was working fine with Roon > Rune but stopped working, seemingly out of the blue.
