Hello Plugs,

- Windows => http://runeaudio
this only works if an Avahi/Bonjour client is installed.
You can install the Bonjour package from Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999

- OSX / Linux / Android => http://runeaudio.local

same type of problem here. not working on my bq aquaris ubuntu edition. if i just type runeaudio.local it goes to google search and if i type http://runeaudio.local it complains about network error. cantata and rune ui work via ip address though.
does anyone know if there's a fix to this problem?

Hi tjukkola,
probably your phone hasn't native Avahi/Bonjour support, required to resolve correctly runeaudio.local. Check if you can add it with a third party app.

I've had a similar problem with an android tablet and a Pi 2. It will not connect using runeaudio.local or http://runeaudio.local but it will connect using the IP address allocated to it by the wireless router. If you are using DHCP this address is not fixed, but you can fix it if your router supports address reservations. You can tie the IP address to the MAC address of the device (look at the attached devices in your router for the MAC address). You can now create a bookmark using this fixed IP address.

many things mentioned here are false, I see this also happen in the german Archlinux forum. I will make it short.

Two services running on our routers are interessting for us:
1. DHCP = sends out networkconfiguration for clients, this means addresses
2. DNS = resolves the (client)names in the network

the networkconfiguration from dhcp contains the address of the dns-Server, in our case router's address.

The router must than send out the names. I do not rembember which protocol is used for that. But since the britains send us our routers nothing worked. In germany we have had Siemens and AVM (so called Fritz!Boxes) works perfect. Now they want us to pay more for our good hardware or take the trash, which can not resolve names. Germans say: hit the router till it works.

There is a solution, called static IP. There are examples in /etc/netctl/examples. Address reservation is not needed. This is a misunderstanding of DHCP, it only sends configuration. You can do this by hand, it is called static IP. And not totally correct, but helps to understand it, it is a class c net.

On linux client you could also give a address a name (/etc/hosts). I do not know anything about windows. I thing no one really knows.

Trust me I have a CCENT.

Automatic address discovery and resolution is not implemented by default in Android, at least up to 4.4.4 release.
I'm not sure if it is integrated in 5.x releases (codename Lollipop).
However we will publish soon a specific Android APP intended to simplify this task, so stay tuned.

Bye.
