I get that this is an open source project worked on by volunteers, but 2 years since a release? Honestly, if I had paid any attention when I was on the download page and saw that, I likely never would have even tried it at all. That is a very long time in the software world. I say this as a person who owns two software businesses. You don't have to do nightly builds, but at least put out something every few months even if it just doing bugfixes.
Yes, I installed Volumio. It has volume control in Spotify, so I am happy. But, one place that RuneAudio excels at in comparison is the smartphone app side of things. You guys did a really nice job on that part of it, and the wife really liked it, which really helps. Wife Acceptance Factor is always an important criteria.
If you ever get the new release out, I might give it a shot. I have a few extra Pis sitting around. But the point stands, if I had noticed that your most recent release was from 2014, I never would have tried it in the first place. Two years is an eternity in software and not having any volume control in Spotify is just not adequate. I would have even accepted it if it were only supported on a hardware basis with a HAT.
I say all of this not to insult your project, or to start some sort of flamewar. I only intend to give honest feedback to help you improve your project. I sincerely wish you all the best, and if things improve from my stance, I may be back.
