what is the reason why Rune sounds better than Volumio and Moode?

Something in the secret sauce.

After A/Bing everything under the sun the only thing I can come up with is Arch Linux itself.

Even if you install a bare bones Arch Linux on one RPi and a bare bone Debian on another, then install only MPD on each the Arch Linux RPi will sound better.

Try it!

For Debian I've come up with some sound tweaks which many many many people gives an instant and very noticeable improvement...MoOde Audio users seem to like it and post on their forum
