Stuttering on Wifi NFS Music

Postby ian2000t » 03 Jan 2016, 22:07

I am running the latest build on a Raspberry Pi B, using a TP-LINK Mini N300 Wifi adapter. Where it is sat, it has 36% Wifi signal.

I can use Radio streaming fine - no skipping at all.

However, if I use music from my NFS share, it keeps skipping randomly (multiple timess per 30 seconds usually).

My settings are set to 20% cache and 4096 memory. Previously it was set to 10% and 2048. Neither are great.

Is there anything I can do to improve this? I know 36% isn't great Wifi signal, but it's similar to what my Laptop has, and that can play the music fine through Samba share (i know this isn't exactly a relevant test though).

Hi ian2000t, have you tried to mount your share via Samba instead of NFS? Usually NFS is the recommended way under UNIX systems, but performances may vary depending on your server side settings and connection speed/stability. You can make some adjustments tweaking the advanced mount options in the mount configuration.

Well, this is strange.

Consistently (last 3/4 times), it has been stuttering so bad on NFS music, that we switched to radio.

Last night, I mapped a SMB share, and rebuilt the library.

I wanted to recreate the issue, before trying the same SMB share. We used the same songs on the NFS share as previously were stuttering, and it payed for an 1.5hrs without any stutter at all.
