Techmike, it might be your display. I have not experienced this.

Have you tried running the display with only the raspberry pi powered and using the jumper leads to power the display? I am running my hifiberry Dac+ Pro this way having soldered on the requisite headers. I believe the Iqaudio Dac has the appropriate plugs on an expansion header already so should not need soldering.

What kind of dual supply are you using?

Even if there is a separate power supply with plenty of juice, there can still be noise on the ground. You are not really isolated from the power supply, it just has a separate supply rail, not isolation from noise.

Audio does not care if the noise is on the ground or on the supply, sometimes one is more noticeable than the other, just depends on the circumstances.

Aluminum foil is not enough to provide either an EMI or RFI shield. IF you do need a shield, it either has to be from mild steel, like the covers used on some audio power supply transformers, or it has to be something like MuMetal, which is what is used to isolate disk drive platters from the effects of the electronics inside a disk drive. MuMetal was also used in some audio, not sure if it still is in new gear.

Do a search online, using it is a kind of art, if you do it the wrong way, you may end up conducting noise where it does not belong, instead of shielding the DAC. Good luck.

Thanks for suggestions everyone.
It can be pretty hard to pick sometimes. I now have a reference track which is more obvious.
I have tried lots of power supply options.
I have also booted the pi with the LCD and then pulled the power from the display and it still does it.
If I boot without the display its fine.

Artist: Patricia Barber
Album: Smash
Track: Missing
The guitar is biased to the right channel all the way through and when the Pi plays up it switches channels. Interestingly there is a guitar solo in the middle and between each phrase you can hear him take a breath and when the guitar changes channels the breath doesn't.

Hi ,
have just built Rpi 2 with hifiberry dac + and 7" Rpi touch screen , all works fantastically and so easy to do , i spent 3 weeks trying to get max2play to play files from usb , i have a couple of questions

Can i make the playback controls larger as sometimes they work sometimes they dont , i read earlier in this thread about changing some css but using scp i cam log in but cannot find the stated file path

also when i first boot the Rpi it gets to the login screen and sits there , at first i thought it had locked up but after around five mins it loads the player screen and all works fine, is there a reason for this start delay and can it be shortened automatically

these are the only issues i can see , i have been through all config screens and set things as required , i can play from usb and internet radio sources which is great , the quality is excellent.

thanks guys for the superb software that is so easy to use ,

i have no working knowledge of linux but willing to learn if pointed in the right direction , all i need to do now is create a enclosure and start transferring my cd collection to a suitable hard drive , do i use FLAC or some other format?
