I just wanted to thank everyone in the Runeaudio community for such a great product. I've never used a RPi before, and I was looking around for a sensible music streamer - initially thoughts were a Mac Mini and a USB dac. Then I thought I would try this - I've got a RPi3 with a Pi-DAC+ running through Rega Jura speakers and a Rega Brio R. The sound is just fantastic, detailed, spacious, relaxed, I love it. So I guess that's a big thumbs up to the DAC.
It's been a bit of a fiddle getting it working, but I've managed to solve nearly all the problems by searching this forum. At first I was using a USB HD attached directly, uploading CDs converted via iTunes to Apple Lossless. Then yesterday I bit the bullet, moved the HD to the USB port of my Airport Extreme and managed to set it up as a network mount. By the way, the mount is SMB/CIFS, not the OSX friendly version, no idea why. Then moved my iTunes library to be stored on the NAS. So I finally have an easy way to get new CDs into the system - just post the disc into the PC and import into iTunes, no mucking about.
The only question I still have is about updating the MPD library. For some reason, although I have auto-update switched on in the MPD configuration page, it doesn't auto update. I have to do a "rebuild MPD library" in the sources page. Not a big deal at all.
Anything I would do differently? Well, it would have been great to have a properly comprehensive "beginners setup guide" that led someone like me who has no previous Linux experience through the setting up process, but I understand that that would be a big undertaking and would need constant checking to keep up to date. Maybe there's one out there, but I can't find it!
Other than that, it's just great. Easy to use, fabulous sound, cheap as chips. What's not to like?
Big thanks to Frank and everyone else who contributes to this great project.
