Trigger Pi to play track when driving past certian location

Postby ich852 » 11 May 2016, 19:19

Hi, this is my first post here so if this is in the wrong location I apologize. My question is if it is possible to have a certain track triggered when driving across a certain area. I work at a historical area with shuttles and we are looking to have the Pi mounted in the bus trigger 2 different audio tracks when leaving their respective locations. I am looking at a 433Mhz RF transmitter and receiver to do this but would be open to any option. Would Rune Audio be the best choice for this? I've been looking through the rest of the forum and have found some info on IR commands but have not seen any RF transmitter projects. We would be using the latest version of Rune and a Raspberry Pi 3. Thanks for the help!

Well high and greetings, welcome ich852. To trigger a track, wouldn't you need a GPS device to set off the trigger? In my simplicity that would be the solution to the location trigger. How the Pi itself would be triggered is the issue, and/or how the GPS (or other) would be configured to send the trigger (der @ me, I know that be the problem). I am useless with Linux type commands, so can't really help you with that. But I am thinking this may not be the correct forum at all, for setting up the Rune configuration it may be. Not trying to dissuade you at all. Rune would definitely play the tracks, and it could be configured to trigger the tracks, based on some kind of GPS (or other) device... how that would be accomplished is beyond me.

It can be done on linux, but you dont need rune to do this.
You'll need a trigger (ie gps as mentioned) or some kind of tagging hardware that triggers an event (IR or RSID come to mind)
Then you'd need to write a couple of scripts to call the player from the command line and pipe a media file (wav/mp3/flac) to the media daemon.
Configure the trigger(s) to run a script depending on event levels (ie 1 for position/audio 1, 2 for 2 and so forth)

Thanks! We are worried GPS wouldnt be quite as precise as we need it but I definitely will move to Linux to do this. I'm thinking and RF or Bluetooth beacon? Again thanks for your help!
