Troubles with wifi

Postby Kwjamesblond » 10 Jul 2015, 23:43

Hey I'm new here and I installed rune audio on my raspberry pi b (the original) and can't get my wifi usb stick to work. I plug in the Ethernet cable and was able to log onto the ui and from there I went on the network and set up my wifi. After that I unplugged the Ethernet and tried to log on through the wifi but can't seem to. I switch out usb sticks and that still didn't work. Any help would be great. :?:

Hello
I am new on Rune but :
Wifi was not working on my Raspberry Pi and as far as I understand It will not work until a new release is available
Current release is v0.3-beta (29/10/2014)and NOT WORKS WITH RASPBERRY PI (MODEL A/A+/B/B+)
and also as far as I have tried , Wifi without Ethernet cable link NOT works for my new RASPBERRY PI 2(MODEL B with v0.3-beta (14/04/2015).
Can you please confirm if this is right ?
Tanks in advance for a good job and waiting for a new release

I had to mess with this for a while to get wireless to work
after a reboot.

Goto /etc/netctl/ directory

Under that dir their is another dir called examples.
Look at the descriptions to determine which one you need.
For example if you want to setup a wireless network with wpa and static ip.
open the file named wireless-wpa-static

This iswhat you will see

Description='A simple WPA encrypted wireless connection using a static IP'
Interface=wlan0
Connection=wireless
Security=wpa
ESSID='MyNetwork'
Key='WirelessKey'
IP=static
Address='192.168.1.23/24'
Gateway='192.168.1.1'
DNS=('192.168.1.1')
# Uncomment this if your ssid is hidden
#Hidden=yes

So you don't overwrite the example copy the one you need
but rename it to wlan0.

cp wireless-wpa-static /etc/netctl/wlan0

This will copy that config file to the netctl dir and then you can edit it.

nano wlan0

edit this file to meet what you need.
Make sure to leave the ' ' around options and you must leave
the /24 on the end of the static ip address.

You can also add
Netmask='255.255.255.0'
after the Gateway entry

Don't change anything until you get to the ESSID entry
in this field type the name of the Wireless Network you want to
connect to again make sure to include the ' ' in the entry

example:
ESSID='mynetwork'

Key='WirelessKey'
is you WPA password

If you don't know your DNS server.
You can use OpenDNS.
DNS='208.67.222.222'
DNS='208.67.220.220'

After you have this file saved in the /etc/netctl directory reboot you Pi
and give it about 20-30 seconds to find the network and connect.

Note: Not a secure way to handle this with the WPA password stored in the clear
but it will get you up and running with wireless even after a reboot.

Hope this helps someone.....

Hi Frank
As I told you, my Raspberry Pi 2 with the latest software downloaded works fine WITH the Ethernet cable connected. I can see my WiFi and establish the connection to my WiFi network ( WPA and DHCP) .
WITH the cable connected everything works fine BUT when I boot WITHOUT the Ethernet cable connected, The wiifi dongle DOES NOT WORK and is not possible to establish connection with the Pi.
The wifi dongle is the DLink DWA-121
Tanks for your help and advise

Hi Miguel,

please connect to your Pi with ethernet connected and established wifi connection.
Then go to MENU->Debug and post the output via pastebin.

Hello,

I just bought a RaspTouch which arrived today with RuneAudio pre-installed by Audiophonics and I have a very similar problem.

That is, without ethernet connected I cannot connect to WiFi, not even Save the profile, the button Save Profile does nothing. With Ethernet connected I can do all that.

I don't know how to get the debug log off of the RaspTouch yet, maybe someone can explain.

Or maybe there is already a known fix for this?

RuneAudio build installed: 0.4 beta-20160313

Thanks
