updating hostapd

Hi all
I'v been intensively trying to update hostapd to this version found at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hostapd-rtl871xdrv/

it seems nothing I do can install it.. pacman -S hostapd-rtl871drv give target not found. Using "packer" gives me a "--asroot command not found" error..

not familiar with linux and googleing gave me no help (packer yauort stuff doesn't work or I couldn't install them)
any help would be appreciated..

Hi Frank,
Thank you for the answer. I created a new user and installed that hostapd with packer (which I understand do the whole process you listed..) and the update seemed to complete. Rebooted.
I still get hostapd version 0.8 when typing
hostapd -v

also after re-installing the official hostapd via pacman Syy hostapd

can somebody guess why?

ok
problem was I had some unmanaged hostapd installations. think I did them while trying to find a proper hostapd for 8188cus chip..
