Updating library causes memory to fill up

Postby sfgreenwood » 27 Mar 2016, 13:39

I've installed 0.4 beta on an 8Gb SD on a Raspberry Pi 3. I have two music libraries on NFS mounts and initially tried to scan them both but this causes the Pi to become unresponsive and to require a restart, which means that the library isn't saved. I then dropped one of the mounts and tried scanning the remaining one, and while the Pi and the UI's response drops right off I could at least confirm that it's a memory problem. Unfortunately this seems to be a problem with mpd and large libraries and there doesn't seem to be an answer in the mpd configuration. Has anyone got a method of handling a large library in a more effective way?

Hi sfgreenwood,

please post the following info:
- output from "df -h"
- output from "free"
- what is a large library?

Or even better post your debug data as mentioned on the "Post a reply" page.

The update has finished now and memory has freed.

df -h

devtmpfs 458M 0 458M 0% /dev

Swap: 0 0 0

However, when I was writing the post it was this:

free -m
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 922 838 42 17 41 9
Swap: 0 0 0

The library is about 500Gb of flacs and 300Gb of mp3s.

I've added the mp3 mount back and the updater is running again and slowly using up memory but the library now seems to have saved to the database so it should be persistent.

As I say, this is probably an issue with mpd rather than Rune.
