Waveshare 5" and RaspPi3

Postby donimo » 13 Jun 2016, 20:11

Hi - I am having some success with outputting to one of these HDMI screens. I have the latest install of Runeaudio running on a Pi3 and sounding fine out of the 3.5mm jack through a homemade amp.
I did the edit to the /boot/config.txt file as described in many places already and I got instant results, however the picture quality is so disappointing;
Image
Text is barely legible and colours are not reproduced at all. the image is made up of distinct vertical lines. There is no touchscreen working.
Is this the best the screen can display? (The pic doesn't show quite how poor the display is)
Do I need to install further drivers? Can any one do a novice walkthrough to get a driver into Arch linux?
Any help is very much appreciated

Thanks for the response.
The display is 'Makibes®5 Inch Resistive Touch Screen LCD(B) HDMI USB Interface'
it has a quoted resolution of 800 x 480
touch controller - not sure - is this a chip or software?, several drivers were included on a Waveshare DVD, I am struggling to make sense of any.
My edit made to /boot/config.txt in RuneAudio_rpi2_rp3_0.4-beta_20160321_2GB image

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=1
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt=800 480 60 6 0 0 0
max_usb_current=1

I am hoping the screen is capable of a crisper display with colour but am not sure it is working correctly.

Hi Frank - thanks for confirming the settings.
Out of curiosity, I altered the numbers in the /boot/config.txt file to play around a little. When I reduce the resolution to say, 640 480 60 6 0 0 0, the display actually improves. It is clearer and in colour, and the rough vertical lines disappear but the display is not the correct size.
As you can see I have no idea what I am doing! Any help would be appreciated. I have included a debug file in the hope this helps.
