Web UI not updating correctly...

Postby PeteB » 18 Feb 2016, 20:50

This may be related to previous posts discussion about what happens when the web UI loses connection with the player.

For Example:

In this case the web UI on my not-so-smart phone continues to work, and so does the player. There is no indication of losing the connection, or a spinning circle.

However, the Playback screen shows the previous (completed) track and the track time continues to advance past the normal end of the track. I can select and play a new selection from the library screen, but the Play screen does not change and still shows the old track. The Queue screen is locked up (unresponsive).

Typical Play screen, showing 45 minutes elapsed, on a 5:28 track length:

The screen cap was while streaming music from the laptop (Ubuntu 14.04), via the phone/hotspot (Android 5.1.1.) to the Pi(Rune Audio, HiFiBerry DAC+). Similar thing happens w. local source library though. Chrome on the "smart"phone, and I have not tried a different browser.

I think it happens when the Pi has some kind of hiccup, but I am not sure. I think the UI running on the phone does not detect when the connection is lost, like Bubble UpnP does and throws an error, but there is no easy way to verify this.

I can actually select and play a new track from the library when this happens, but the Playback and Queue screens will not show it. So the Rune UI CAN communicate with the Pi, but not all parts of the UI seem to know it. I am not sure how this squares with the socket theory etc.

The phone is a Samsung SM-G360T, about 5 months old, a.k.a., "Samsung Galaxy Cory Prime". On the scale of smarts, probably above a goldfish, but not by much... :D. On the phone: Android 5.1.1, Chrome 47.0... Faster than my old Google/Nexus tablet, but slower than a Chihuahua. (It was the least expensive Samsung phone I could find at the time that would serve my needs when on the road, so this is not a complaint, u get what u pay for).

It does a credible but slow job as a Wifi hotspot for four devices, including a laptop and two RPi/HiFi Berry combos for streaming music and video, but not for fast data transfer... Much slower than my 5-year-old HP Elitebook.

Can't say much about the choice of browser, but the Rune UI has some quirks on this device, perhaps the screen resolution is not enough for Rune, or something else. Long text strings sometimes go off the edge of the screen or outside a window, and some of the play and scroll icons are small and hard to click compared to other UI (or I may just have fat thumbs).

By comparison, the old Nexus tablet is very slow with the same version of Android/Chrome, but the screen is great compared to the phone.

edit, in summary:

phone: Samsung Galaxy Prime SM-G360T, 8.0 GB
phone os: Android 5.1.1
browser: Chrome V 47.0.2526.83
pi: RPi 2B
WiFi dongle: Edimax EW-711UN
dac: HiFiBerry DAC+
pi os (from uname -a): runeaudio 3.18.7-3-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Feb 13 06:23:21 MST 2015 armv7 GNU/Linux
