Wi-Fi won't connect

Postby Nimrod64 » 18 Dec 2014, 10:02

I have put together a nice little music server / player with a B+, an IQAudio Dac+ and RuneAudio 0.3. Works beautifully when tethered to my network via ethernet but I cannot persuade it to connect via wi-fi. It will detect my talktalk network, allow me to input security details, but as soon as I hit "connect" it just starts searching for networks all over again. The wi-fi adapter was supplied with the Pi B+, uses a Ralink chipset and appears to be working (I have tested it successfully on a windows PC, and it illuminates when in one of the Pi's USB sockets). As an elderly novice to Linux, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions as to how to get wi-fi connected.
Thanks in hope,

I had this problem too, and was stumped for ages, until I solved it by making a new wireless network (SSID) - with a name that didn't contain any spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters.

Don't know why, but it worked!

I tried to connect to a WPA2 PSK Wifi network, trough the WebUI and console. I even changed my wifi settings, no luck.

I had similar problems with WiFi, I suspect there is a problem with the configuration of the SSID. I fixed it by following the suggestion in this forum post:

Remember to put the WPA passphrase in double-quotes as well as the SSID.

If you don't want to store the passphrase in plaintext, please read the following:

Hope this helps!
