[SOLVED] wrong cover if playing folder of mixed files

Postby waves » 21 Feb 2015, 19:40

I noticed that I got incorrect cover images when playing some files. I think this happens when mixed files (from different albums/artists) are placed in the same library subfolder and some of the files have embedded images while others haven't. Those without embedded images will then display the image from one of the other files.

Is it currently possible to configure Rune UI to first look for embedded image in the currently playing file and, second, look for a folder.jpg file in the same folder and if neither method finds a cover then show no cover ?

Hi. I don't use SMB/CIFS. Rune UI is updated to latest version through /dev page commands. The menu > settings > last FM option is set to "OFF" which I presume also disables last FM cover lookups. I'll doublecheck if there are any folder.jpg / cover.jpg / folder.png / cover.png laying around in the trouble folder and post back.

Edit: indeed there was a folder.jpg file that I didn't notice earlier.

Edit again: But it appears as if the last FM cover check always runs even if that setting is off. Is that correct? To disable that I can comment out section number 3 in coverart_ctl.php .

Ok, an on/off settings button for that Last FM lookup could be useful, since it appears to sometimes not show the right album image (I've seen it show a picture of the artist instead for example, but haven't looked into it much).

Another idea while on the topic of cover art: the id3 tagging software Mp3tag can scrape data from among other places discogs.com, and that data defaults to include a URL to the album page at discogs. Rune UI could on album image click (or longpress) check if there is a URL tag in the metadata and if so load it in a new browser tab. For handy lookup of song/album details while playing.

It should be up to you to provide the right covers if you want to avoid the Last.fm ones, as the check order is:
1) embedded cover art
2) cover file in the folder
3) Last.fm

Anyway the online automatic lookup is an interesting feature suggestion, we may consider that for future releases.
