XMOS USB - I2S Adapter

Postby R101 » 29 Apr 2016, 16:38

I am new to all this and have just set up a B+ with v0.3-beta.

It all works well until I connect my USB DAC, which uses an XMOS based USB to I2S adapter. Rune just keeps reporting that the sound card configuration has changed and cycles the volume between 0 and 100, but does nothing else. The adapter works OK under Ubuntu. Is the Rune kernel UAC2 compliant, or am I wasting my time?

An alternative would be to use the Pi's I2S output in slave mode. Are there any instructions on how to do this in Rune?

Thanks for the reply, hondagx35.

The USB adapter is locally powered, so I don't think it's likely to be a power problem. It is showing that kind of behaviour, though, so I will check.

None of the I2S choices are labelled as slave mode, but perhaps one is?. So far as I know, the kernel still has to be recompiled to alter the clock direction, which is not something I could do without a lot of help.

Hi R101,

the latest image for RP2 and RP3 have support for the HiFiBerry Digi (all versions) and the DAC+ Pro.
These two DACs make use of the slave mode (DAC is clock master).
So check their driver source code how this is done.

Which Pi do you use?

Hi hondagx35,

I am using a B+ but as a result of your post I will be ordering a Pi3 right now!

Thanks.

To update this, the Pi 3 works perfectly with my USB card.
